Algae filled with starlight,
spreads out
to feed the currents.
a green lace,
over the bodice of water,
whose curves,
lush with life,
nurture the world;
while life itself,
sheds its skin,
disposes its waste,
and climbs to the surface,
as a thick and oozy film.

Ocean Breeze
Pulling from somewhere off the coast, where suns set,
the taste of salt, sand, and shadow;
a whispered heartbeat from the ocean floor
beckons me with ancient sounds.
The crest of a furled mystery that awakens
a need in me, aching for those depths.
To be but water made conscious, drowning
but no desire for the surface or sky.
Even before the shore my breath was stolen,
though I would gladly have given my last,
to be the current that moves through you,
yet a part of you in kind.
Exuberance!
Enough to carry me to the unknowing,
but the wanting to know,
to discover peace among the motions,
rise in celebration,
and fall again as rain laughing into the waves.
Laughing until out of breath,
sinking beneath your ocean to swim forever.
The Dirt
The dirt, brittle cracks exposed,
hidden beneath flowers in rows, and rows, and rows-
begs for the darkness that hides the sun’s rising,
the labor gestating beyond the horizon.
Let the torrent wash over those wounds,
like sand over the dessert dunes;
let it fill the countless spaces between-
make them whole, placid, serene.
Rationalize the absurd landscapes
with a throng of rivers, ponds, and lakes;
though the myriad of cracks remain,
the water gives the earth an even plain-
stable enough for all the life we know
to drink deep and grow, and grow, and grow.
Shadow Boxing
Come out and play,
come out and play!
I hear you in the shadows,
dancing through the darkness
like a sea cucumber in the current.
The absurd fun,
the jubilation.
Come out and play,
come out and play!
I see the soft glow of your teeth,
still obscured from the light,
like the scales of a fish,
waving back through muddied water.
The subtle jest,
the tease.
Come out and play,
come out and play!
I feel your intensity,
the primal tugging beyond the veil,
like the vortex of a whales tail,
disorienting its prey.
The elegant guile,
the hubris.
I am ready.
Come out and play,
come out and play.
Wishes
The well waits open to the sky
a placid barrier below
silent bait for the passersby.
What water patiently poised
would want of the world above
only dreams will ever know.
The meager coins that violate the surface
swallowed by depths of darkness,
are but emissaries of whispered words
that beg of fate a future to bestow.
They gather amongst the sediment
an ancient glittering congress
perpetually pleading the case
for ambitions that died long ago,
lost to the unknown abyss
where light is known only by shadow
and purpose found only in fools.
Austin
The sound of warm water embraced reaching a crescendo of steam above the still surface.
English Channel in Late Spring
A cold wind is blowing – across blue mysteries
where fabled depths are made – with dreadful histories
the fog that hides our shores – honest beyond distance
reminds us there is more – than water’s resistance
Those sunken tragedies – speak to us in the mist
like lost souls rekindled – struggling to persist
to have their stories told – in hidden waves crashing
a song of desperate need – sung with somber splashing
Gulls and hearts hear those words – cry out in harmony
though the mind binds their mouths – and call it larceny
Why should time take those things – we enjoy in life now
and give them to the past – that we have disavowed?
Those far off shores stay hid – behind veils of regret
while we must remain here – on all our sides beset
by the antiquities – of an empire long dead.
From those sober ashes – we always look ahead.
Entrenched
The lakebed – a mystery beneath me
a raised fist of surface tension
broken by my presence
ready to snap
The bold enfold
Take hold withhold
Those treasures that a younger self might seek
buried beneath what could have been
in the hands of sunk ships
we passed at night
Be slow cargo
forgo below
Destination
tribulation
the boon of the lonely
once found grants us only
abdication
