Ocean Breeze

Pulling from somewhere off the coast, where suns set,
the taste of salt, sand, and shadow;
a whispered heartbeat from the ocean floor
beckons me with ancient sounds.
The crest of a furled mystery that awakens
a need in me, aching for those depths.

To be but water made conscious, drowning
but no desire for the surface or sky.
Even before the shore my breath was stolen,
though I would gladly have given my last,
to be the current that moves through you,
yet a part of you in kind.

Exuberance!
Enough to carry me to the unknowing,
but the wanting to know,
to discover peace among the motions,
rise in celebration,
and fall again as rain laughing into the waves.

Laughing until out of breath,
sinking beneath your ocean to swim forever.

Shadow Boxing

Come out and play,
          come out and play!

I hear you in the shadows,
            dancing through the darkness
like a sea cucumber in the current.
                            The absurd fun,
                                the jubilation.

Come out and play,
            come out and play!

I see the soft glow of your teeth,
        still obscured from the light,
like the scales of a fish,
                    waving back through muddied water.
                            The subtle jest,
                                  the tease.

Come out and play,
          come out and play!

I feel your intensity,
the primal tugging beyond the veil,
like the vortex of a whales tail,
                      disorienting its prey.
                              The elegant guile,
                                    the hubris.

I am ready.
Come out and play,
          come out and play.

Sinking

The sea aches with the setting sun,
where immutable forces meet
something stirs.

Eyes catch but a glimpse
before the light is pulled beneath the waves;
the curled fingers of Poseidon
throttling the form.

Resigned to the demise below
the last hope of a tired dream
                                      dies,
as the dreamer did long ago.

Entrenched

The lakebed – a mystery beneath me
a raised fist of surface tension
broken by my presence
ready to snap

The bold                             enfold
Take hold                           withhold

Those treasures that a younger self might seek
buried beneath what could have been
in the hands of sunk ships
we passed at night

Be slow                              cargo
forgo                                   below

Destination
tribulation
the boon of the lonely
once found grants us only
abdication

Deep Breaths

What years have passed between us
breathing like whales
we dive deep to live our lives
rise up for air seldomly

We dive deep to live our lives
That air gives rise to song
energy to move
to feed
and we rise up for air seldomly.

We dive deep to live our lives
lives fueled from the air above
the resources below
and the depths to comfort(swallow) them.
We rise up for air
and together we are there
seldomly.

We dive deep to live our lives
ponder the moments until air is needed again.
